Martha 'Kat' Alexander

Martha "Kat" Alexander, 83, of 115 12th St., Beckley, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness. Born April 30, 1918, in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late George W. Edmonds and Lula Traynham Edmonds. Mrs. Alexander was formerly employed as a cook in New Castle, Pa. She attended Byrd Prillerman High School and Welcome Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Alexander; and five brothers, Johnny, Thomas, Earl, George and James Edmonds. Survivors include a brother, Curley Edmonds of Baltimore; five sisters-in-law, Parthena Edmonds, Jewel Alexander, Lucinda Hughes and Anna Lee Duren, all of Beckley, and Frances Bourner of Florida; nephews and nieces, the Rev. James Edmonds (Brenda) of Springfield, Va., Jerry (Joan) Edmonds of Henderson, N.C., Raymond "Peter" Edmonds of Inkster, Mich., Mat-thew "Bo" Edmonds of Detroit, Curley Edmonds Jr. and Raymond Edmonds of Baltimore, Benjamin Edmonds of Florida, Timothy Edmonds of Richmond, Va., Beverly Edmonds Branch of Youngstown, Ohio, Mary Louise Edmonds of Detroit and Pearlie Mae Walker of Baltimore; and a host of other relatives, special friends and members of Welcome Baptist Church. Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Welcome Baptist Church, Beckley, with the Revs. David Allen, Thomas V. Moore and Walter Leach officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before service Monday at the church. Arrangements by Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.
