Mary Jane Athey

SAXON - Mary Jane Athey, 56, of Country Woods Road, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Dec. 20, 1944, in Huntington, she was the daughter of the late James and Lorena Blake Worden. Mrs. Athey spent her childhood in Huntington and returned to the Saxon and Fairdale area in 1978. She was a graduate of Huntington High and attended Marshall University. She was a member of Shiloh Community Church, Saxon, and enjoyed gardening, her flowers and farming. Most of all, Mary enjoyed spending time with her husband and family. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Worden. Survivors include her husband, William Layton "Bonehead" Athey; two sons, David Henry and his fiancee, Barbara, of Beckley and Joshua Williams of Clarksburg; a daughter, Kim Henry of Saxon; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Zachariah, Elijah and Joseph Henry, Amber Brubaker, Sabrina and Samantha Brock, and Sarah Henry; a great-grandchild, Dustin Dunford; two brothers, John and Kenneth Worden, both of Huntington; and three sisters, Margaret Webb and Phyllis Crank, both of Ohio, and Suzie Worden of Detroit. Service will be 1 p.m. today at Shiloh Community Church, Saxon, with Pastors Jerry Brooks and Tommy Dickens officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before service at the church. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley.
