Harry 'Gabby' Atkins

MEADOW BRIDGE - Harry Lloyd "Gabby" Atkins, 70, formerly of Rainelle, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, in the VA Medical Center, Beckley, following a long illness. Born Aug. 28, 1931, in Layland, he was the son of the late Rev. Henry T. and Naomi Spencer Adkins. Mr. Atkins served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and later was a factory worker. He was a member of the Raleigh County DAV since 1989. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rhoda Warwick; and two brothers, Emmett and Grover Atkins. Survivors include six sisters, Nezra M. Hall of Shady Spring, Lela Powers of Beckley, Sue Kinckel of Baden, Pa., Mary Critchley of New Castle, Del., Rachel Raines of Middlesboro, Ky., and Ruby Cross of New Castle, Del. Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Carlos Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements by Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle.
