Orville L. Ayers

Orville L. Ayers, 63, of Piney View, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999. Born May 31, 1936, near McCreery, he was the son of the late Elbert and Melinda Altice Ayers. Mr. Ayers was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA District No. 29. He had lived most of his life in McCreery, where he owned and operated a business for 15 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Goins Ayers; and daughter, Ruth Ayers. Survivors include two sons, O. Lee Ayers II of Piney View, and Timothy Scott Ayers and his wife, Leah, of Fredericksburg, Va.; two daughters, Shelia Ayers of Piney View, and Christine Lilly of Richmond, Va.; and four grandchildren, Charles, Matthew, Michael and Shana Ayers. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Cecil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be the West Virginia state troopers: Dave Hess, Scott Van Meter, Bill Pioch, Tim Bradley, Tim Boothe and Steve Satterfield. Arrangements by Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.


Orvel Keith Ayers

Orvel Keith Ayers, 46, of Sophia, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, in a Beckley hospital. Born Feb. 4, 1955, in Greenbrier County, he was the son of Ruby Wood Ayers of Sophia and the late Orval Ray Ayers. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Nellie and Dewey Wood. Other survivors include his wife, Bettyann Wilcox Ayers, and his daughter, Brianna, of Morgantown; his paternal grandmother, Flora Ayers of Greenbrier County; two stepdaughters, Christine Wilcox and Jennifer McGinley, both of Morgantown; and a granddaughter, Pippa Crosby McGinley of Morgantown. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Church of God Family Worship Center, MacArthur, with the Rev. Stephen Board and Pastor Mark Schrade officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, and one hour before service Friday at the church. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley.
