Mary Catherine Bailey

Funeral services for Mary Catherine Bailey, 77, of Prosperity, will be conducted at 2:30 pm Thursday at the Prosperity Church of Christ with burial to follow in the Prosperity Cemetery.   Mrs. Bailey died in a local hospital at 11:09 pm Monday following an illness of several months.  Born at Mattsville, April 10, 1873, she was the daughter of Lewis and Catherine Phipps.  She was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County and a member and a member of the Prosperity Church of Christ.  Her husband, Walter R. Bailey, proceeded her in death in 1945.  Survivors include: five sons, R. L. Bailey, of Beckley, R. G. Bailey, B. F. Bailey, and W. D. Bailey, all of Prosperity. and Carl Bailey, of Naoma; two daughters, Mrs. Lena Arnold, of Mt. Hope, and Mrs. Ethel DeHart, of Beckley; two brothers, James Phipps, of Fayetteville, and O. A. Phipps, of Fairborn, O., 25 grand-children and 13 great grand-children.   The body will remain at the Calfee Funeral Home until 2 pm Wednesday when it will be removed to the residence.  From there is will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the services.

 

Malana J. Bailey

GLEN ROGERS -- Malana June Bailey, 20, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, in a Charlottesville, Va., hospital following a short illness. Born Dec. 26, 1977, at Beckley, she was the daughter of Danny Rexel Bailey of Glen Rogers, and the late Mina June Morgan Bailey. Mrs. Bailey was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County, and was a 1997 graduate of Pineville High School. Other survivors include two sisters, Michelle Bailey of Glen Rogers and Muzette Bailey, with the U.S. Navy stationed in Japan; a brother, Michael Bailey of Glen Rogers; her grandmother, Eva Delores Bryson of Glen Rogers; a nephew, Marshall Bailey of Glen Rogers; and a niece, Manieca Bailey of Glen Rogers. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Evans Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ira Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow at the Shrewsbury Cemetery on Garwood Mountain. Addie A. Bailey

Addie Lee Allen Bailey, 84, of Sophia, died of natural causes, Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at her home. Born Feb. 22, 1914, at Bolt, she was the daughter of the late Henry Van and Eliza Snuffer Allen. Mrs. Bailey spent her childhood at Bolt, and had been a resident of Sophia for the past 36 years. She was a homemaker and of the Christian faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Bailey in 1983; five brothers, Roy, Ash, Arthur and Dallie Allen, and an infant brother; a sister, Ella Mae Anderson. Survivors include two sisters, Ruth York of Bolt and Kitty Lubich of Beckley; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 1 p.m. today at Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Jim Mundy officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before the services today at the funeral home. Ora Ellen Bailey

ITMANN -- Ora Ellen Bailey, 64, of P.O. Box 159, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, in a Beckley hospital. Born Feb. 18, 1934, at Pageton, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Annie Mitchem Rose. Mrs. Bailey had lived in Itmann most of her life, was of the Holiness faith and was a devoted wife and mother. She was preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers. Survivors include her husband, Bobby W. Bailey at home; a son, Ricky Bailey of Itmann; a daughter, Shelia Hatfield of Mullens; five sisters, Mrs. Dick (Louise) Kerney of War, Mrs. Eugene (Ruth) Billips of Bland, Va., Mrs. Dean (Hazel) Hall of Bluewell, Joyce Surber of Bluewell and Mrs. Howard (Doris) Garbo of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and four brothers, Winston Rose of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Dennis Rose, Roger Rose and Harold Rose, all of Ypsilanti, Mich. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel, Bluewell, with the Rev. Dale Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell. Dreama D. Bailey

OCEANA -- Dreama Delores Fisher Bailey, 76, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in a Logan hospital following a long illness. Born Sept. 22, 1922, at Oceana, she was the daughter of the late Waitman Wayne Fisher and Mary Jane Rollins Fisher. Mrs. Bailey was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County, was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Oceana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Bailey; a son, Larry A. Bailey; and three sisters, Vivian L. Vinson, Helen Lorene Hatcher, and Beatrice Jennie Fisher. Survivors include four sons, Terance Alton Bailey and his wife, Nancy, of Hermine, Pa., David Wayne Bailey of Charleston, James D. Bailey and his wife, Michelle, of Charleston, and Timothy Lewis of Georgia; three sisters, Florence Ellen Maxey of Kopperston, Dora June Fisher of Oceana and Bernice Jane Marcum of Clear Fork; a daughter-in-law, Robin Bailey of Fairmont; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. John E. Bailey, Jr.

John E. "J.E." Bailey, Jr., 44, of Prosperity, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, following a mining accident. Born Dec. 9, 1954, in Jacksonville, Fla. he was the son of John E. Sr. and Rena Milam Bailey of Prosperity. Mr. Bailey was a coal miner and of the Baptist faith. He was an employee of Lightning Contractors. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, R.G. Bailey; and his maternal grandfather, Blain Milam. Survivors include his wife, Charla James Bailey of Prosperity; one son, Jason Bailey, and one daughter, Christy Bailey, both at home; a grandmother, Emma James of Prosperity; a paternal grandmother, Eva Bailey of Sprague; a maternal grandmother, Mildred Milan of Prosperity; one brother, Row W. Bailey of Prosperity; and one sister, Belinda Hill of Suffolk, Va. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Dickson officiating. Robert Earl Bailey

MILL CREEK ¦ Robert Earl Bailey, 80, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born march 26, 1919, at Glenfork, he was the son of the late Green and Leola Acord Bailey. Mr. Bailey was retired from Ashland Oil Company with 37 years of service. He was a Air Force veteran of World War II, member and former trustee of Mill Creek Freewill Baptist Church and was a charter member of the Brenton Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Virgie Adams, Ruth Mitchell, and Lilly Thompson; and one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Nicole Bailey. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Johnson Bailey; five sons, Dale Bailey and his wife, Glenna, of Brenton, Larry Bailey and his wife, Yvonne, of Brenton, Leon Bailey and his wife, Karen, of Pineville, David Bailey and his wife, Diana, of Brenton, and Tommy Bailey and his wife, Audrey, of Brenton; 11 grandchildren, Angie Cline and her husband, Darrell, Jeremy Bailey, Jennifer Bailey, Adam Bailey and Samuel Bailey, of Brenton, Christy Bailey and Cody Bailey of Pineville, Steve Bailey, Pam Bailey and her fiancé, Jason Sprinkle, Amy Adams and her husband, David, and Michael Bailey and his wife, Tonya, of Statesville, N.C.; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Graham of Brenton; and a brother, Leonard Bailey of Brenton; and many nieces and nephews. Trudy K. Bailey

PRINCETON - Trudy Kathleen Bailey, 51, died Friday, July 2, 1999, in Princeton. Born in Colcord, she was the daughter of Kathleen Thompson Kern of Princeton and the late Harry Kern. Mrs. Bailey was employed at Johnson¹s Inn and Restaurant in Princeton for several years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Memorial Post 9696 and the Women¹s Moose of Princeton. She was a past senior regent of the Bluefield Chapter of the Women of the Moose. Other survivors include a son, Terry Bailey and his wife, Frances, of Princeton; a daughter, Tammy Bowles of Princeton; a special friend, Charlie Doddril; a brother, James Cook of Whitesville; a sister, Frances Gillespie and her husband, Bobby, of Chester, Pa.; a niece, Konnie Anderson of Birmingham, Ala.; a nephew, Eric Scott and his wife, Missy, of Falls Mills, Va.; and two step grandchildren, Christopher and Carlotta Pendergrass. Darmie Bailey

KINCAID ­ Darmie Bailey, 88, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, in a Beckley medical center following a long illness. Born March 24, 1911, at Clear Creek, he was the son of the late Levi and Martha Stover Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a disabled veteran in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margie Mae Taylor Bailey; and his second wife, Lula Deltha Rollins Bailey. Survivors include two daughters, Martha Williams of Minden, and Emogene Fox of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Quinton Frank Bailey

OCEANA - Quinton Frank Bailey, 66, went home to be with his Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at his residence following a long illness. Born Aug. 17, 1933, in Jesse, he was the son of the late Henry L. and Laura Allen Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a retired coal miner and worked 16 years at the Newport News Shipyards and Dry Dock. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a lifelong resident of Wyoming County. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Helen Chandler Bailey; four sons, Danny Ray Bailey and his wife, Madeline, of Oceana, David Wayne Bailey of Oceana, Jeffery Scott Bailey and his wife, Merian, of Elberon, Va., and Raymond Bailey and his fiancé, Julie Gibson, of Oceana; two brothers, Woodrow Bailey and his wife, Edith, of Hendersonville, N.C., and George Lee Bailey and his wife, Betty, of Glen Fork; a sister, Dora Vinson of Ravencliff; six grandchildren, Jeremy Ryan Bailey and Tiffany Francesca Bailey of Beckley, Danielle Leann Bailey and Matthew Steven Stewart of Welch/Pineville Road, and Andrew Pauley and Zachary Bailey of Elberon; step grandchildren, Taylor Hurley of Oceana, Heather Ashley Long of Biloxi, Miss., and Harry Patrick Long and family of Wichita Falls, Texas; several nieces, nephews and close friends. Barbara J Bailey

Barbara Jean Bailey, 60, of Beckley, formerly of Mount Hope, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 5, 2000, in a local hospital following a long illness. Born Aug. 4, 1939, in Mount Hope, she was the daughter of the late Francis B. Anderson and Frederick Bailey. Mrs. Bailey was a longtime resident of Mount Hope, a graduate of Dubois High School and attended Bluefield State College. She was preceded in death by three grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Kimberly Odom of Alvardo, Texas, Deborah Carter of Norfolk, Va., and Christina Bailey of Mount Hope; five grandchildren; and special friends, Micheal Tyree and Mazie Walker. Laura Bailey

Laura Bailey, 74, of Sprague, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, in a Beckley area hospital following a short illness. Born April 12, 1926, at Skelton, she was the daughter of Ora Eva McKinney Bailey of Sprague and the late Roscoe Bailey. Miss Bailey was a member of the Beckley Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Bailey; and a nephew, J.E. Bailey Jr. Other survivors include nephews: Guy L. Bailey of Norfolk, Va., Roy W. Bailey of Prosperity, Jeff and David Bailey, both of Chicago, Ill.; nieces: Belinda J. Blanche Rose Bailey

Blanche Rose Bailey, 99, formerly of 405 Temple St., Beckley, went home to be with Jesus Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000. She was residing at 321 N. Kanawha St., Beckley, at the time of her death. Born April 6, 1901, in Park, Va., she was the daughter of the late Colonel and Elzina Lewis Jennings. Mrs. Bailey was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being one of 11 children. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Beckley. In 1921, she married Guy Charles Bailey, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three children, Charles Elvyn Bailey and Lovell Bailey of Beckley and Jewell Honaker of Connellsville, Pa. Survivors include four children and their families: a son, Delbert L. Bailey and his wife, Reva, of Grandview, with their five children, Edwin L. Bailey and his wife, Milindi, of Cross Lanes, Guy Earl Bailey and his wife, Marsha, with their children, Zachary and Lily, Kevin D. Bailey and his wife, Lora, of Jeffersonton, Va., Scott Alan Bailey and his wife, Amy, of Morgantown, and Aleisa Moye and her husband, Rick, of Crab Orchard; three daughters, Geraldine Roscano and her husband, Tom, of Detroit, along with their son, Gregory and his wife, Aileen, also of Detroit, Gloria Moll and her husband, Howard, of Spring Arbor, Mich., and their children, Martin Moll and April Barrett of Spring Arbor, and Noma Aldridge and her husband, David, of Ridgecrest, Calif., and their children, Crystal Walls and Mark and Merri Jo Aldridge. Oliff A. Bailey

RICHWOOD - Oliff Andrew Bailey, 72, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, following a short illness. Mr. Bailey attended Lighthouse Apostolic Church, Craigsville. He was an ordained Apostolic Pentecostal minister. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of UMWA Local 1466 and was retired from Island Creek Coal Co. He and his wife, Joy, had the Hymn Time program on WCWV, Summersville, for five years. Mr. Bailey was an avid trout fisherman at Summit Lake, near Richwood. Most important, he worked for the Lord. Survivors include his wife, Joy Williams Bailey; three sons, Delbert Ray Bailey and Michael Andrew Bailey, both of Glen Daniel, and Gary Wayne Bailey of Richwood; two daughters, Debra Ann Boone of Craigsville and Angel Jacquetta Hammons of Richwood; a brother, Eugene Bailey of Mount Hope; seven sisters, Betty Lou Laxton of South Carolina, Cora Graley of Clear Creek, Evelyn Robison of Detroit, Edith Taylor of Page, Ethel Taylor of Robinson, Helen Blevins of Beckley and Linda Toney of Crestline, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren. Herbert G. Bailey

WEATHERLY, Pa. - Herbert G. Bailey, 82, of 411 First St., passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Plains Township, Pa. Born March 1, 1918, in Pinoak, Mercer County, he was the son of the late Meridth "Doc" and Alma (White) Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a member of the Protestant faith and a 1941 graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in civil engineering. He worked for the U.S. Army Map Service, the U.S. Geological Survey and the Tennessee Valley Authority. He also did private survey work until his retirement in 1984. He was an avid golfer and woodworker and a member of AA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Toilee Bailey; and a sister, Elva Mays. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Minna (Behan) Bailey; a son, John J. Bailey of Sterling, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. John (Mary) Wargula of White Haven, Pa.; a brother, Marion Bailey of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; a sister, Sybill Lancaster of Glen Burnie, Md.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church of Christ, First and Fell streets, Weatherly. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one's choice. Harold C Bailey

PETERSTOWN - Harold C. Bailey, 94, of HC 81 28E, formerly of Route 1, Lilac Hills, Princeton, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at the home of his son. Born Nov. 15, 1906, in Crumpler, he was the son of the late William Wheeler and Mary A. Bailey. Mr. Bailey had been a resident of Bozoo for 31 1/2 years and was a member of Carr Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a retired coal miner from United Pocahontas Coal Co. in Crumpler with 40 years of service. He was also a member of the UMWA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie C. Grose Bailey; a son, Donald Bailey; a grandson; and eight brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Esther Barber of Beckley and Dottie Riffle and her husband, Cecil, of Princeton; two sons, Paul Bailey and his wife, Louise, of Bozoo and Richard Bailey and his wife, Brenda, of Hanceville, Ala.; three sisters, Ora Jones of Timberlake, N.C., Rennie Iddings of Bluewell and Minnie Hamm of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Edna M Bailey

BRIER CREEK - Edna M. Bailey, 86, of Wyoming County, formerly of Davy, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in Princeton Community Hospital following a brief illness. Born Oct. 26, 1914, at Peterstown, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Alice Noel Harless. Mrs. Bailey had resided in Davy for more than 60 years, where she had worked in the Hastings Sundry Store for a number of years. She was a member of the Davy United Methodist Church for 40 years. Prior to moving to Brier Creek she taught Sunday school in the kindergarten department of the church for several years. She was past president of the Davy Woman's Club and served as council for Methodist Youth for 10 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Crockett Bailey Sr.; seven brothers and one sister. Survivors include three sons, Thomas C. Bailey Jr. and wife, Toni, of Beckley, Mark W. Bailey and wife, Linda, of Brier Creek, and James B. Bailey of Huntsville, Ala.; a daughter, Mrs. Don (Betty Jo) Roberts of Abingdon, Va.; six grandchildren, Christi Lynn Chisholm of Irvine, Calif., Misty Leigh Mahoney of Berthoud, Colo., Daryl and Melinda Bailey of Beckley, Jennifer Renee Bailey and Eric W. OCEANA - Charles M. "Jack" Bailey, 73, formerly of Calhoun County, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Dec. 11, 1927, at Beech, he was the son of the late Dave and Etta Clevenger Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a retired welder from H.N. Lawson Co., a member of Joseph Baptist Church, Lynco, and a resident of Wyoming County since 1968. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Butler; and three half brothers, Greeley Bailey, Criss Hall and Dutch Hall. Survivors include his wife of 471/2 years, Merle Conley Bailey; and a host of special nieces and nephews. Helen Cora Bailey

Helen Cora Vest Bailey, 87, of Pleasant Hills, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in a Fayette County care center following a long illness. Born Jan. 1, 1914, at Jumping Branch, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth Light Vest. Mrs. Bailey spent her childhood at Jumping Branch. She settled in the Pleasant Hills community in 1934. She and her husband, the late Russell B. Bailey, were co-owners of Bailey's Cash Store for more than 30 years. She was an active member of the Oak Grove Christian Church and will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son and her other son, Bernard R. Bailey, in 1993; two sisters, Faye Lilly and Glada Vest; and two brothers, Jack and Hubert Vest. Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Taylor and her husband, Dennis, of Brunswick, Ohio; three grandchildren, Raymond Swaggerty and his wife, Marsha, of Beckley, Sherry White and her husband, Tim, of Charleston, and Melissa "Mel" Hefner and her husband, Allen, of Beckley; three great-grandchildren, Katie Swaggerty, Rachel and T.J. White; a brother, Fred Vest and his wife, Claralee, of Mabscott. Service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Grove Christian Church with Pastor Kenny Overdorf officiating. Theodore A. Bailey, Jr.

PINEVILLE - Theodore A. "Ted" Bailey Jr., 60, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Lewisburg. His one sister, Sandra Beckelheimer, also died the same day. They were the children of the late Theodore A. and Macie Cole Bailey. Mr. Bailey was born April 3, 1940, in Pineville. He was a Realtor and owner of Pineville Land Co. He was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County and a member of Pineville United Methodist Church and the Pineville Lions Club. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Rose Ann Shuck Bailey; a daughter, Deidra Bailey Eland and her husband, Matthew, of Goode, Va., two sons, Theodore A. Bailey III of Laguna Beach, Calif., and William C. Bailey III and his wife, Janeen, of Beckley; and a granddaughter, Alexandra G. Bailey of Beckley. Harry L. Bailey

CLEAR FORK - Harry L. Bailey, 87, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born June 17, 1913, he was the son of the late Jesse J. and Norah Walker Bailey. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Janet Bailey Payne and Ella Bailey Stanton; and two brothers, Raymond O. Bailey and Truman Bailey. Survivors include his wife, Eula Blankenship Bailey; four grandchildren, Kimberly Stanton Strickland and her husband, Dr. Mike Strickland, of Philomont, Va., Michele Stanton Gibbons and her husband, Michael Gibbons, of Fort Worth, Texas, Angela Payne Bossie and her husband, Tom Bossie Jr. of Alpharetta, Ga., Jon Michael Payne and his wife, Leslie Karns Payne, of Bloomington, Ind.; nine great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel, Kristen, Elizabeth and Benjamin Strickland, Katie and Hannah Bossie and Matthew and Timothy Payne. Rev. James E. Bailey

TALCOTT - The Rev. James E. Bailey, 68, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hinton. Born Sept. 19, 1932, in Hinton, he was the son of the late Daniel Bailey and Hazel Barton Bailey Meadows. The Rev. Bailey was a retired U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran, a member of Hinton Lodge No. 62 AF and AM, a retired Methodist minister and a member of United Methodist Church, Talcott. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Meadows; and his stepfather, Rsby Meadows. Survivors include three brothers, Gerald Meadows and his wife, Linda, and Donnie Meadows and his wife, Margaret, all of Peterstown, and John Meadows and his wife, Carol, of Forest Hill; two sisters, Janice Atwell and Joyce Dillon and her husband, Marke, all of Peterstown. Leonard Bailey

MILL CREEK - Leonard Bailey, 78, entered into a new life Friday, May 11, 2001, at his residence following a one-year illness. Born Jan. 26, 1923, at Glen Fork, he was the son of the late Green and Leola Accord Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a retired coal miner, last working at Island Creek Coal Co. He was a member of Mill Creek Freewill Baptist Church and the Baileysville Sportsman's Club. He was preceded in death by a son, Joe Bailey, in 1975; a brother, Earl Bailey; and four sisters, Virgie Adams, Ruth Mitchell, Lillie Thompson and Nancy Graham. Mr. Bailey was the last surviving member of his family. Survivors include his devoted wife of 59 years, Mae Ferguson Bailey; three daughters, Myrtle "Tupie" Blankenship and her husband, Theodore, of Pineville, Faye Lester and her husband, Fred, of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Lisa Lambert of Pineville; four sons, Buddy Bailey and his wife, Nancy, of Pittsburgh, Bob Bailey and his wife, Barbara, of Hebron, Ohio, Wayne Bailey and his wife, Barbara, of Mill Creek and Gary Bailey of Leesville, S.C.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many loving nephews, nieces, friends and neighbors. Georgia Bailey

Georgia L. Bailey, 73, of 510 Ewart Ave., Beckley, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 1, 2001, in a Princeton hospital following a long illness. Born Dec. 20, 1927, in Eccles, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Henry Barnett and Roxie Ellen Farley Barnett, both now residents of Heaven. Georgia was the former Mrs. Martin Estil Bailey. She was a kind, generous and loving Christian, helping anyone she could. Mrs. Bailey was a longtime member of the Parma Park Church of God in Parma, Ohio. She moved with her family to Cleveland, Ohio in 1966, then to Medina, Ohio in 1977, finally she moved to Beckley in June of 1994. She was preceded in her final journey by her son, Lanta Darrell Bailey; brothers, Chester, Clyde, Frank and Jack Barnett; and sisters, Arlena Vanover, Bessie Davidson, Elizabeth Thomas and June Milam. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda S. Bailey; a son, Henry Bailey and a daughter of the heart, Linda Tuncsiper, all of Beckley; a sister, Viola Brooks of Sabine; brothers, John Henry and Dwayne Barnett of Cleveland, Ohio and Garnett Barnett; many other family and friends. Jean H. Bailey

PINEVILLE - Jean H. Bailey, 80, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at her residence following a long illness. Born March 5, 1921, in Cynthia, Ky., she was the daughter of the late William and Sue Kinney Hickman. Mrs. Bailey was a 60-year resident of Wyoming County, a former chairman of the West Virginia Federation for Democratic Women and a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1964, an active member in many other civic organizations and of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, former Secretary of State Robert D. Bailey Jr.; a brother, William Hickman Jr.; and a sister, Virginia Carr. Survivors include a son, Robert D. Bailey III and his wife, Christy, of Pineville; three grandchildren, Angela Sue Osborne of Salisbury, N.C., and Robert D. Bailey IV and Micah A. SABINE - Bessie Mae Bailey, 75, went to be with the Lord at 4:58 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, in Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, following a long illness. Born March 5, 1926, in Princeton, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Cyrus and Nina Ellen Woodard. Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker and a loving wife and mother. She attended Rhema Ministries of Ravencliff and was a lifelong servant of God. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Mildred A. Bailey

Mildred Alice Bailey, 85, of Lanark, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at a Beckley area hospital.  Born July 31,1916, at Warden, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Adney and Mary Lorine Crickmer Warden.  Mrs. Bailey was a member of Stanaford Community Church and Grace Baptist Church. She loved traveling, flea markets, and was a great collector.
She was a people person with many family members and friends whom she loved. She also worked as a riveter on Liberty ships during World War II.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Clarence Bailey; and a grandson, Phillip Ray Bailey.  She was the last surviving member of her husband's immediate family.  Survivors include two sons, Nicholas Ross Bailey and wife, Judy, of Stanaford and Grant Clarence Bailey and wife, Linda, of Grandview; a daughter, Barbara Ann Shrewsbury and husband, Baxter, of Stanaford; nine grandchildren, Kathy Bailey Gill, Johnny Bailey, Shawna Bailey, Kim Bailey, Ramey Bailey, Shelley Bailey, Susan McCracken, Sandy Maxwell, and Samantha Shrewsbury; three brothers, William Alfred Warden of Bluff City, Tenn., Raymond Eugene Warden of BluffCity, Tenn. and James Wesley Warden of Blountville, Tenn.; a sister, Margaret Warden Diggs of  Bristol, Tenn.; and several great-grandchildren.  Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor BobbyJ. WALDRON, Ark. - Julia Lee Godby Bailey, 90, formerly of Oak Hill, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, in Waldron Nursing Center following a short illness. Born Feb. 14, 1911, in Thayer, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Benson and Sarah Persinger Godby. Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker and a member of First Assembly of God, Oak Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey L. Bailey, on July 12, 1960; five brothers, Charles, William, Frank, John and Oliver Godby; and two sisters, Elizabeth Sill and Ann Starcher. Survivors include two sons, William Donald Bailey of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jack L. Bailey of Brook Park, Ohio; three daughters, Betty Shieler of Route 2, Fayetteville, Shirley Ann Cox of Waldron and Linda Dinsey Ferrell of Valpariso, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Ruth Vida Elkins Bailey, 82, of Arnett, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001. Born Jan. 27, 1919, at Oceana, she was the daughter of the late Dennis Elkins and Corby Stewart Elkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman D. Bailey, on July 13, 1998. Survivors include two sons, J.D. S. Kenneth Bailey

PRINCETON - S. Kenneth Bailey, 97, of 647 Kirby Addition Road, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at his home. Born July 13, 1904, in Springton, he was the son of the late William A. Nailey and Virginia Foley Bailey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ida Mae Wood Bailey; four brothers; and eight sisters. Mr. Bailey was a member of Friendship Primitive Baptist Church, Spanishburg. He was retired for 40 years, last having worked for Arista Coal Mines. He was a longtime member of the UMWA. He is survived by three sons, David N. Bailey and his wife, Ruby, of Princeton, O. Allen Bailey and his wife, Sue, of Westover, Ala., and Leland K. Bailey and his wife, Terri, of Princeton; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Rowland H. MEADOW CREEK - Harry L. Bailey, 72, formerly of Sissonville, departed this life Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at his home following a long illness. Clara Beatrice Bailey

Clara Beatrice "Billie" Bailey, 91, of Crescent Road, Beckley, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at her home following a long illness. Born Aug. 30, 1910, in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Amanda Bailey Thompson. "Billie," as she was affectionately known, attended McDowell County schools and Concord College. She was well known for her painting, china painting and ceramics. She taught ceramics in Bluefield for many years. She and her family resided in Bluefield, Parker, Ariz., and Raleigh, N.C., before moving to Beckley in 1988. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Heber Street, Beckley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Gordon Bailey, in 1989; a son, Billy Gordon Bailey; a daughter, Tina Gwinn Bailey; and a nephew, Scott Caudill. Survivors include a sister, Gloria G. Caudill and her husband, James, of Beckley; a brother, W.R. Thompson and his wife, Helen, of Richmond, Va.; a granddaughter, Amy L. Jones, and two grandsons, Neal S. Born Aug. 4, 1919, at Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Joe Hunt and Mary Ann Cheetham Hunt. Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker and a former school teacher in Raleigh County. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Concord College. She was a member of the Piney View Bible Church and lived in Piney View all of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Bailey; a brother, Earl Hunt; a sister, Bertha Hunt; and a great-granddaughter, Laci Robertson. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Lou Bell and husband, Rodney of Piney View and Carolyn Jo Fox of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother, Ernest Hunt and wife, Margaret of Piney View; two sisters, Clarice Martin of Piney View and Edith Roberts of Beckley; four grandchildren, Steven Fox, Jeffrey Bell, Amber Hammond, and Amy Robertson; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Robertson. Service will be 8 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with Pastor Cecil Smith officiating. Graveside rites and burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hurt Cemetery at Piney View. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Pete Meadows, Phillip Maiolo, Arnold Maiolo II, James Suggs, Leonard Hanks and Darrell Grant. Brad Dean Bailey

(WHITESVILLE) - Brad Dean Bailey, 19, of Whitesville, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, in Boone County, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident.  He was a senior at Sherman High School. He was born, Feb. 10, 1983, at Beckley.  Surviving are his grandparents, (Teddy and Farris Bailey) ; mother, Lisa Bailey of Beckley; brother, Cory Stover of Beckley; uncle, Tony Bailey of Whitesville; cousin, Kels Bailey of North Carolina.  Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Valley Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Rev. Gary Maynor officiating. Burial will be in Hodge Cemetery, Artie.  Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.  Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.  Valley Funeral Home, Whitesville, is in charge of arrangements.
