George A. Barber

George A. Barber, 41, of Beckley, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at his home following a short illness. Born May 3, 1958, at Beckley, he was the son of Louise Hoskins of Sweeneysburg and the late Frank Barber. Mr. Barber was owner of Computer Village, a former employee of Lillys' Crown Jewelers and Burgess Pic Pac. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and the College of West Virginia. He was a faithful member of Maynor Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Eva J. Hoskins. Other survivors include his wife and companion of 19 years, Paula Daniels Barber; a son, Scott Allen Barber at home; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Drema Daniels of Mabscott; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Lori Lilly of Roanoke, Va.; two aunts, Janice Nicely of Sweeneysburg and Jeanne Hoskins of Manassas, Va.; three uncles, Harry Hoskins and his wife, Nancy, of Beckley, Howard Hoskins and his wife, Patricia, of Beckley, and Grady Hoskins and his wife, Peggy, of Beckley; and numerous cousins and friends. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Forrest Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be David Crouch, Ureal Allen, Mike Tucker, Glen Williams, Jim Bowyer and Warren Bailey. Thomas G. Barber

GAULEY BRIDGE - Thomas George Barber, 74, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Barber was a retired crane operator for Union Carbide, Alloy, with 25 years of service. He was a member of the Glen Ferris Apostolic Church. He was an Army WW II and Korean War veteran and a member of the Gauley Bridge VFW Post 8366 and a lifelong resident of Fayette County. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxcine Sullivan Barber; and a brother, Virgil Barber. Survivors include his wife, Dalma Jean Weese Barber; daughters, Linda Young of Powellton, Twalla Lowery of Beards Fork, and Vickie Coleman of Powellton; sons, Thomas George Barber Jr. of Robson, Bobby Barber of Powellton, Ricky Barber of Robson; stepdaughters, Cheryl Hierl of Las Vegas, Nev., Ella Asbuary of Gauley Bridge and Linda Crul of Teays Valley; stepson, Eugene McMillion Jr. of Ashland, Ky.; sister, Mary Jane Stone of Bluefield, W.Va.; brothers, Allen Stone of Matheny and Donald Junior Stone of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 21 step great-grandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Glen Ferris Apostolic Church, Glen Ferris, with Pastor Frank Bounds and the Rev. Kenneth Raynes officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be conducted by the Gauley Bridge VFW Post 8366 at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at B.C. Hooper Funeral Home, Montgomery, and one hour before the service Monday at the church. Arrangements by B.C. Hooper Funeral Home, Montgomery.

 

Mabel L. Barber

Mabel L. Burleson Barber, 86, of Fairdale, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 8, 2001, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born April 17, 1914, at Cove Creek, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Daisy Milam Burleson. Mrs. Barber was a homemaker and an active member of the Coal Marsh Missionary Baptist Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Barber; a daughter, Ella Mae Carter; a son, Jimmy Griffith; two sons-in-law, Frank Barthold and Eddie Richardson; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include three sons, Bill Barber and wife, Mary, of Cochransville, Pa., Marvin Barber and wife, Kim, of Glen Daniel, Douglas Barber of North Carolina; six daughters, Charlotte Mullins and fiancÚ, Ken Scott, of Beckley, Sheila Hurst and husband, Randy, of Fairdale, Sa-die Barthold of Fairdale, Mary Richardson of Fairdale, Daisy Bryson and husband, Ricky, of Fairdale and Nancy Day and husband, Frankie, of Glen Fork; a son-in-law, Russell Carter of Beckley; care giver, Lou Tolley of Bolt; 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gordon Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.
