George T. Barker Jr.
OTSEGO -- George Thomas Barker Jr., 71, of Otsego, Wyoming County, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Oct. 31, 1926, at Stotesbury, he was the son of the late George T. and Brida Shumate Barker. Mr. Barker was a 58-year resident of Otsego, attended Mullens High School, was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II, was a retired coal miner, having worked last at Herndon Eastern Associated Coal Company, and was a member of the UMWA. He was an active member of the Mullens Moose Lodge and the Mullens American Legion. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William Edward, Russell Louis and James Robert Barker; and a sister, Helen M. Rinehart. Survivors include his wife, Castella Blosser Barker; two sons, Melvin Thomas Barker of Nashville, Tenn., and Joseph Steven Barker of Charlottesville, Va.; three sisters, Hilda Keatley of Beckley, Maxine Morgan of Otsego and JoAnn Rezzonico of Mullens; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services and burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with David Pollock officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 4326 Sophia Midway. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tankersley Funeral Home. Arrangements by Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens.
Sadie B Barker
ROCKLEDGE, Fla. - Sadie B. Barker, 74, formerly of Beaver, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at the home of her daughter in Rockledge following a long illness. Born Feb. 5, 1908, in Summers County, she was the daughter of the late Gordon Meadows and Mary Ann Kidd Meadows. Mrs. Barker was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Beaver. She lived most of her life in Raleigh County and was a member of the Senior Citizens Club at Beaver. She was a loving mother and grandmother, enjoyed traveling and loved to work in her flower garden. She will be greatly missed by everyone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Barker; a brother, Oscar Meadows; four sisters, Dora Wood, Clara Maddy, Elsie Lyons and Pansy Elgerbt; and two sons, Bill Barker and John Barker. Survivors include two sons, Harold Barker and his wife, Alma, of Jumping Branch and Roger Barker and his wife, Judy, of Palm Bay, Fla.; three daughters, Doris "Penny" Milam of High Point, N.C., Shirley Thompson of Rockledge and Mary Pitsenberger and her husband, Glen, of Fayetteville; a brother, Clyde Meadows of Bellepoint; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Roger Pauley officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley.
