Roberta E Bayne

Roberta Elizabeth Bayne, 64, of 119 S. Meadows St., Beckley, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born June 18, 1937, in Amigo, she was the daughter of the late Kelly G. Pannell and Florida Smith Pannell. Roberta was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a graduate of Stratton High School, where she was a majorette. She was formerly employed at Beckley Manufacturing and American Legion Post No. 70. She was also preceded in death by a son, Chauncey "Dewey" Bayne Jr.; two brothers, Kelly Jr. and Leroy Pannell; and a sister, Mary Helen Watson. Survivors include husband, Chauncey Lee Bayne; seven daughters, Germaine Bayne of Columbus, Ohio, Loletia Bayne Morris of Beckley, Coretta Penn and her husband, Lester, of Dayton, Ohio, Danita Bayne and her fiancée, E. J., of Dayton, Stephanie Kay Smith and her husband, Kelvin, of Beckley, Cheryl Donovan and her husband, Jim, of Astoria, Ore., and Monica Bayne of Columbus; a son, Jeffery Bayne and his fiancée, Ann, of Beckley; a stepson, Donald Oakley and his wife, Robin, of Maybeury; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Raymond "Red" Pannell and his fiancée, Regina, of Beckley, James "Joker" Pannell of Durham, N.C., Walter Lee Pannell and his wife, Phyllis, of Cleveland and Norman Pannell and his wife, Ann, of Beckley; a sister, Annette "Ann" Pannell of Beckley, formerly of New York; two aunts, Bessie Morris of Columbus and Sally Covington of Washington, D.C.; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at New Hope Baptist Church, Beckley, with the Revs. Nathaniel Carey, Walter M. Leach and Abner Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call noon until time of service Friday at the church. Arrangements by Durgan Funeral Home, Beckley.
