Gladys Blackwell

HICO - Gladys Blackwell, 88, passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in a Beckley hospital. Born Feb. 12, 1912, at Eperly, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Ida Thompson Mann. Mrs. Blackwell was a member of Kessler Memorial Presbyterian Church, Hico, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Blackwell, on July 30, 1980; a sister, Lelurr Gibson; and four brothers, Dewey, Clifford, Arnold and Allen Mann. Survivors include two sisters, Pearl Chupp of Wooster, Ohio, and Irene "Sis" Gibson of Columbus, Ohio; five daughters, Retha Hedgecock and her husband, Eugene, of Alexandria, La., Nellie McGhee and her husband, Henry, of Beckley, Joyce Ballard and her husband, George, of Bolt, Eva Mattox and her husband, Robert, of Fayetteville and Wanda Archer and her husband, Robert, of Easton, Md.; three sons, Robert Blackwell and his wife, Sally, of Lakeland, Fla., John Blackwell and his wife, Judy, of Beckley and Sam Blackwell of Austin, Texas; 25 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Ansted, with the Revs. David Shaffer and Robert Mattox officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Arrangements by Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Ansted.
