Obituaries for the Blake Family
Denzil Blake, 91, of 118 Poplar St., Beckley, died at 9:50 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness. Born Nov. 5, 1910, he was the son of the late Dennis and Biddie Treadway Blake. Mr. Blake was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He was a member of Calloway Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hester Blake; a daughter, Shirley McVey; a son, Bobby Blake; and four brothers, Earl, Grover, Lewis and Russel Blake. Survivors include three sons, Denvil L. Blake and his wife, Janice, of Piney View, Ernie G. Blake of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Kenneth G. Blake and his wife, Drema, of Lanark; a daughter, Frances Trapuzano and her husband, Amon, of Pennsylvania; a brother, Dennis Blake Jr. of Harrisburg, Pa.; two sisters, Myrtle Ward of Skelton and Margaret Mann of Michigan; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Bill Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley.
Ira E Blake II
OAK HILL - Ira E. Blake II, 77, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Beckley, following an extended illness. Born Sept. 5, 1924, in Cranberry, he was the son of the late Ira Blake and Lillian Williams Blake. Mr. Blake was an honor graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He served in the U.S. Army with the 32nd Battalion, 8th Regiment, earning a Purple Heart in the European Theater. He retired in 1989 after 33 years as general manager of Houff Transfer Inc., Charleston. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Betty Long Blake. Survivors include two sons, Ira E. Blake III and his wife, Darlene, and Robert G. Blake and his wife, Priscilla, all of Oak Hill; a daughter, Elaine Stanley and her husband, Alvin, of Los Gatos, Calif.; and a sister, Nellie White and her husband, Al, of Belle. Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Rudell Bloomfield officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call 9:30 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 115, Dunbar, WV 25064.
