Bessie M Bland

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - Bessie M. Bland, 87, died Thursday morning, Jan. 10, 2002, at Brian Center nursing facility, Low Moor, Va., following an extended illness. Born April 16, 1915, in Glace, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Biddie Moss Morris. Mrs. Bland was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Alvin Bland, in 1998; two grandsons, Jeffery Lee Bland, in 1982, and Senior Trooper Douglas Wayne Bland, in 1999; and four brothers, Talbert, Marshall, Monroe and Roscoe Morris. Survivors include a son, Jack Bland and his wife, Peggy, of White Sulphur Springs; four sisters, Pearl Benton of San Jose, Calif., Nellie Haynes of Frankford, Pauline Radar of Covington, Va., and Frances Hunter of Columbus, Ohio; three brothers, Thurmond Morris of West Allis, Wis., Kelly Morris of Columbus and Bert Morris of Dandridge, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Steven Bland and his wife, Diane, of Sinks Grove and Lynn Bland of White Sulphur Springs; and two great-grandchildren, Sandra Bland Goan and Autumn Bland. She is also survived by the staff and caregivers of Brian Center nursing facility. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Carmel Cemetery, Gap Mills. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs, and at all other times at the Jack Bland residence, 528 Big Draft Road, White Sulphur Springs.
