Obituaries for the Boone Family

Sherman J. Boone

ALDERSON -- Sherman J. Boone, 77, died 12:08 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in a Beckley medical center following a long illness. Born June 8, 1921, at Judson, he was the son of the late William T. and Maggie Bragg Boone. Mr. Boone had lived most of his life in Summers County and had been a resident of Alderson for the past 18 years. He was a disabled employee of Fields Quary at Snowflake, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Tempa Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lou Verna Ballengee Boone; and two brothers, Perry Boone and Burman Boone. Survivors include three sons, Jasper Wayne Boone, Donald L. Boone, and Daniel M. Boone, all of Alderson; a daughter, Sandra Boone of Blacksburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Sherri Boone, Shane Boone, Helen Humphries, Mike Boone and Joe Boone; one great-grandchild, Sarah Jane Humphries; a brother, Raymond Boone; and a sister, Marinda Berkley of Tempa. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Tempa Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton, and one hour before the services Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton.

 

Phyllis I. Boone

GAITHERSBURG, Md. -- Phyllis Iline Boone, 52, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at her home. Born Dec. 2, 1945, in Rockville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Phyllis McIntyre Atwell. Mrs. Boone was employed by Marriot Host Hotels, where she worked in accounting and was also a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Boone Home Improvement Inc. She attended Wildwood Baptist Church in Gaithersburg. Survivors include her husband, Billy K. Boone; a son, Billy Karl Boone Jr. of Poolesville, Md.; a daughter, Cherie Iline Drake of Gaithersburg, Md.; two brothers, Dennis Atwell of Thurmont, Md., and George R. Walaters of Texas; a sister, Linda Price of Hagerstown, Md.; three grandchildren; mother-in-law, Emmer Boone of Hinton; a sister-in-law, Brenda Cooper of Hinton; and a brother-in-law, Benny Boone of Hinton. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Rd., Laytonsville, Md. Friends may call one hour before the services at the funeral home in Laytonsville, Md. Graveside services and burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Woodrumtown Cemetery near Hinton, with Dr. James Parker officiating. There will be no local visitation. Mary Frances Boone

WINFIELD - Mary Frances Boone, 63, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at home after a short illness. Born Dec. 15, 1937, in Layland, she was the daughter of the late Flora and Aden Lucas. Mrs. Boone was a member of the Chestnut Knob Community Church and a retired PLPN from Thomas Memorial Hospital, where she worked for 25 years. Survivors include her husband, James L. Boone of Winfield; her son, James L. Boone Jr. and wife, Stephanie, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two daughters, Lee Angelia Dages and husband, Kevin, of Hinsdale, Ill., and Valerie Six and husband, Charles, of Scott Depot; six grandsons, James L. Boone III, Joseph Morgan Boone, Lucas Omer Dages, Samuel Jacob Dages, Michael Anthony Marino Six and Charles Edward Six, III; and sister, Ruth Anderson of Chuloto, Fla. Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Elder Monroe Hammon officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rose-lawn Memory Gardens, Victor. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Arrangements by Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane.

 

Gary Dean Boone

SAN PEDRO, Calif. - Gary Dean Boone, 43, formerly of Summers County, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, in Los Angeles. Born Nov. 7, 1957, in Hinton, he was the son of Roy and Madeline Andrews Boone of Hilldale. Besides his parents, other survivors include two sons, Michael John Boone of Texas and Gary Dean Boone Jr. of Rainelle; two daughters, Tonya Wheatley of Louisa, Va., and Asta Marie Burroughs of Ronceverte; a brother, Michael Boone and his wife, Sharon, of Monroe, N.C.; a sister, Jeannie Thompson of Bradley; two nephews, Troy Sifers of Roanoke, Va., and Greg Sifers of Meadow Bridge; a niece, Colene Boone of Monroe, N.C.; and three grandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with the Revs. Sterling Morgan and Eugene Fullen officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery, Sandstone. Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements by Pivont Funeral Home, Hinton.
