William G Bowman
MATHENY - William Grant "Bill" Bowman, 82, passed away Monday, May 8, 2000, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 26, 1918, in Roderfield, he was the son of the late John Frank and Cora Pettry Bowman. Mr. Bowman was a World War II U.S. veteran and a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 8364. He was a retired coal miner with 361Ž2 years of service and a member of the local union No. 9177. He was owner and operator of Bowman's Body Shop for 10 years and a member of Matheny United Methodist Church. He was instrumental in getting the public water system in Matheny and was chairman of the water company for 15 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Albert; and an infant brother, John Frank Bowman Jr. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Helen Buchanan Bowman; three daughters, Jane Combs and her companion, Bob Sims, Jeanette Price and Billy Cook and her husband, Phillip, all of Matheny; a son, John Bowman and his wife, Donna, of Matheny; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a very special nephew, Frank Alberty; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Tim Conrad officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Lucy Faye Bowman
Lucy Faye Bowman, 89, of Fireco, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2002 at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley following a long illness. Mrs. Bowman was born on March 6, 1912 in Virginia to the late William Hart and Minerva Taylor Hart. Mrs. Bowman was a homemaker and former employee of Pinecrest Hospital. She was of the Methodist faith and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Brown; three sisters, Dorothy Harvey, Mamia Daniels, and Pearl Dollinger, three half sisters; and three brothers, Everette, Arlie, and Ross. Survivors include her son Bobby Wayne Bowman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her daughter Norma Jean McCargish of Baltimore; three grandchildren, Ann Miller of Baltimore, and Karen and Robert Bowman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and three great grandchildren, Jonathan Miller of Baltimore, and David Bowman of Colorado Springs, Colo. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Rose & Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Fred Hart Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call today at the funeral home between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friends and family will serve as pall bearers. Arrangements by Rose & Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley.
