Obituaries for the Braxton Family

Willie G. Braxton

Willie G. Braxton, 71, of 1303 F St., Beckley, died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a short illness. Born Feb. 22, 1929, in Raleigh, she was the daughter of the late James Arthur Richmond and Maggie Burns Richmond. Mrs. Braxton was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church, where she was a member and past president of the Senior Choir. She was a member of the Dorcas Missionary Society, a 1947 graduate of Stratton High School, treasurer of the Stratton Alumni Association and a member of the NAACP, AARP Modernistic Homemakers Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel "Nat" Braxton, on Sept. 29, 1980; and a sister, Pauline Richmond Palmer. Survivors include two daughters, Cora Lee Braxton and Monica Lynn Braxton of Beckley; a brother, James Arthur Braxton Jr. and his wife, Peggy, of Geneva, N.Y.; three sisters, Annie Mae Mickey of Detroit, Roberta Cain Scott of Beckley and Geneva Richmond of New York City; a grandson, Jamar of Beckley; five nephews, Carnel Van Mickey, Darryl Scott, Phillip Palmer, James Richmond III and Randy Richmond; and seven nieces, Rhonda and Michelle Richmond, Paula Hill, Tosi Wortham, Audrey Cain Cox, Bethel Scott and Shelia Smith. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Robert I. Brown and Elder Luther Hairstonn officiating. Friends may call one hour before services Tuesday at the church. Arrangements by Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.
