Obituaries for the Breck Family

Eve Breck

RALEIGH, N.C. - Evelyn Long Breck, 94, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, of natural causes. Born July 31, 1907, in Appleton, Wis., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Long. Mrs. Breck attended Lawrence University and worked in Appleton until 1932 when she married the late Graham K. Breck Sr. of Brecksville, Ohio. After living in Connecticut, they moved in 1946 to Beckley, where Eve stayed at home with their two children and volunteered with the schools, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and St. Stephens Episcopal Church. In 1957, Eve went to work for the Raleigh Register newspaper in Beckley, first in the library and then as a reporter, covering business and industry, the courts and education. She also spent time as news director at WJLS Radio in Beckley. Retiring from the newspaper in 1972, she spent the next 10 years with the City of Beckley as recorder-treasurer and zoning officer. Her second retirement enabled her to travel, volunteer with the church, teach reading in an adult literacy program and tutor in an elementary school. Eve moved to Raleigh in 1992 and enjoyed water aerobics at Optimist Park and volunteering at St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Outlook Point at Northridge, an assisted living facility in Raleigh, was her home for the past four years, where she enjoyed many activities and made friends with the residents and the staff, who provided her with loving care. Survivors include a son, Graham K. Breck Jr. and his wife, Karin, of Folsom, Calif.; a daughter and her husband, Louise and Larry Bolash of Raleigh; a grandson, Allen Breck, his wife, Karen, and their sons, David and Christopher, of Anchorage, Alaska; a granddaughter, Karin Salvalaggio, her husband, Marco, and their son and daughter, Matteo and Daniela, of London, England; a grandson, David Breck, his wife, Rebecca, and their son, Hayden, of Bozeman, Mont.; a grandson, Eric Bolash, his wife, Robin, and their daughters, Mila and Risa, of Raleigh; a grandson, Rodney Bolash, his wife, Susan, and their son, Domenic, of Boone, N.C.; a sister, Elizabeth Davis of Appleton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service celebrating Eve's life was 2 p.m. Feb. 5 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Raleigh. The family received friends after the service. Burial followed in Brecksville, Ohio. Arrangements by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Raleigh.
