Kenneth Earl Burford

OAK HILL - Kenneth Earl Burford, 74, died Saturday morning, April 21, 2001, at his residence following a long illness. Born Nov. 3, 1926, in Boom-er, he was the son of the late Rexford Earl Burford and Ida Mae Blankenship Burford. Mr. Burford was a retired coal miner, working over 30 years in the mines. He worked at Laurel Coal Co. and White Ridge Coal Co. and was a member of the UMWA. He was also a truck driver for Beckley Stone for six years. He had been a resident of Fayette County all his life and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and Korea. He was a member of the H.H. Franklin Club (an antique car club) and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kyle Burford; and a sister, Sarah Jeffers. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nilah Light Burford; a son, David Burford of Oak Hill; six daughters, Eileen Rollyson and her husband, Dan, of Falls Church, Va., Shirley Phillips and her husband, Glenn, of Charleston, Connie Sullivent and her husband, B.J., of Tulsa, Okla., Kathy Linkenhoker and her husband, Bob, of Fayettevile, Rhonda Hayhurst and her husband, Dusty, of Oak Hill and Sharon McDowell of Oak Hill; a sister, Goldie Payne of Coal City; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Art Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. VFW Post 3110 of Oak Hill will conduct military graveside honors. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Dan Rollyson, Glenn Phil-lips, Bob Linkenhoker, David Burford, Dusty Hayhurst and Carl Stewart will serve as pallbearers.
