Hiawatha James Burnette

Hiawatha James Burnette, 85, of Daniels, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at his home following a long illness. Born Nov. 28, 1913, at McComas, he was the son of the late Howard and Pina Blackburn Burnette. Mr. Burnette was a retired postmaster who served the Daniels Post Office for 35 years. He had previously worked as a fire boss at Winding Gulf Coal Company in Crab Orchard. Mr. Burnette was a member of the Spoken Word Tabernacle Church, Beaver. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Zillian Shrewsbury Burnette; two daughters, Ruth Ann Motzno and her husband, Jim, of Vienna, and Sandra Bays and her husband, Neil, of Shady Spring; a son, Howard Burnette and his wife, Nancy, of Danville, Va.; three grandsons, Kenneth Bays of Clarksburg, Doug Motzno and Dale Motzno, both of North Carolina; a granddaughter, Lisa Bays of Morgantown; a great-grandson, J.D. Motzno of Vienna; and his caretaker, Diana Williams of Beaver. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Spoken Word Tabernacle Church with the Rev. Roy Shrewsbury officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Beckley. There will be no visitation. Pallbearers will be members of the church. Donations of sympathy may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, W.Va. 25802. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley.


Nora L. Burnette

Nora Lee Walker Burnette, 75, of Shady Spring, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, surrounded by her family. Born March 18, 1925, in Odd, she was the daughter of the late Milburn D. and Ada Lee Cooper Walker. Mrs. Burnette attended Midway First Church of God. She was a homemaker, a member of the Thursday Senior Citizens group and a former volunteer at the VA Medical Center, Beckley. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carlton Kelly Perdue; her second husband, Charles Burnette; three infant children, Carlton and Linda Faye Perdue, and Charles Burnette Jr.; and a sister, Iris Perdue. Survivors include a son, Larry Perdue and his wife, Jennifer, of Paintsville, Ky.; three daughters, Loretta Holt and her husband, Bill, of Virginia Beach, Va., Norma Todd and her husband, Jerry, of Midway and Beverly Wyatt and her husband, Kent, of Ghent; a sister, Wanda Adams and her husband, Clyde, of Epperly Hill; 14 grandchildren, Larry, Lori, Kelly, Samantha, Timmy, Lisa, Bob, Wanda, Madonna, James, Jackie, Jerry, Heather and Christopher; and 10 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Kayla, Greg, Jeff, Amy, Matthew, Kellie, Patrick, Stacey and Brittany. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Rick Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.


Weldon H. Burnette

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. - Weldon H. Burnette, 65, formerly of Greenbrier County, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, N.C., following a long illness. Born Feb. 2, 1935, in Matoaka, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late John and Anna Burnette. Mr. Burnette was a veteran, having served four years in the U.S. Air Force. Part of his service was during the Korean War. He was also preceded in death by six of his eight siblings and his wife of 29 years, the late Helen Beale Burnette. Survivors include five children, Edward and Richard Burnette of Hurricane, Kenneth and Jennifer Burnette of Mount Airy and Mark Burnette of White Sulphur Springs; two sisters, Ruth Basham of Reston, Va., and Frances Carrera of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Private graveside memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Sam Black Church. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 3110 of Oak Hill. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle. Arrangements by Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle.
