Aileen L. Butler

ATHENS -- Aileen Louise Butler, 84, of 106 Morgan St., died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, in a Princeton hospital. Born Jan. 16, 1914, at Athens, she was the daughter of the late John Miles and Sallie Shumate Bailey. Mrs. Butler was a graduate of Athens High School, received her A.B. Degree from Concord College in Athens and had worked toward a Masters Degree from Marshall University, Huntington. She had taught school in the Mercer County School System for more than 25 years, having taught for more than 19 years at Montcalm High School. She was a lifetime member of the National Teacher Education Association and the West Virginia Education Association. Mrs. Butler was a active member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau. For many years, she was a very dedicated and devoted member of the Mercer 4-H Club and the Athens 4-H organizations. She was a lifetime member of the West Virginia/Mercer County 4-H, she was a 4-H Allstar. On many occasions, held workshops, lecture and taught classes to all ages of 4-H groups. She was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church, Athens. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Clark R. Butler; a son, Paul Clark Butler and his wife, Patty of Mt. Clare; two daughters, Mary L. Hopkins and her husband, C.W. Jr., of Pipestem, and Carol B. Bailey and her husband, Everette, of Princeton; six grandchildren, Sean Paul and Ryan Edward Butler, Bobby and Bill Hopkins, and Jeffery Wayne and Heather Bailey; and two great-grandchildren, Katie and Elijah Hopkins. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Burns-Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road, Princeton, with the Rev. Kevin Gooding officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens on the Courthouse Road, Princeton. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
