Thelma J. Cales
HINTON - Mrs. Thelma J. Cales, 93, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at a Summers County hospital following a short illness. Born Jan. 17, 1907, at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Henry Wilson and Edna Cales Meadows. Mrs. Cales was a homemaker and had lived all her life in Summers County. She was a member of the Shockley Hill Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Cales in 1985; two sisters and three brothers. Survivors include three sons, David A. Cales and wife, Vada of Middletown, Ohio, Nathan B. Cales of Berlin, Md. and Darrel. B. Cales and wife, June of Hinton; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Bennett and husband, Elwood of Hinton and Mrs. Joyce L. Allen and husband, Harry J. of Hinton; a brother, Buran Meadows and wife, Mabel of Hinton; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Graveside services and burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Upland Cemetery near Hinton. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton.
Wilda C Cales
LAGRANGE, Ohio - Wilda Clara Cales, 60, formerly of Beckley, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Elyria Memorial Hospital, Elyria, Ohio, following a long illness. Born April 15, 1940, in Abraham, she was the daughter of Lillie Todd Bennett of Beckley and the late Earl Bennett. Mrs. Cales was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, feeding wild birds, reading and caring for her family home. She had made her home in Ohio since 1962. Other survivors include her husband of 39 years, Alton Cales; two daughters, Linda Schmidt and her husband, David, and Carla Simmons, all of Lagrange; two sons, Randy Cales of Greenville, N.C., and Brian Cales of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Gladys Key of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Charles Bennett of Richmond and Jimmy Bennett of Beckley; and four grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Calloway Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Alderson Cemetery, near Ramp. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, and one hour before service Monday at the church. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley.
