Ada Shumate Clemons

Ada Beatrice Shumate Clemons, 86, of Tolley Town, died Sunday, March 8, 1998, in a Beckley care center following a long illness. Born March 30, 1911, at Stover, she was the daughter of the late James C. and Cora Stover Shumate. Mrs. Clemons spent her childhood at Stover, where she was a member of the Stover Church of Christ. She was a 1937 graduate of Trap Hill High School, and lived many years at Tolley Town. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Clemons in 1969; six brothers, Earl, Everett, Nelson, Hayes, Jack and Herman Shumate; and three sisters, Della Tolley, Fannie Canaday Bonds and Stila McGraw. Survivors include a son, George Clemons and his wife, Ella Jane; two grandsons, Eric and James Clemons, all of Fairdale; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Bernice) Lotz of Stuart, Fla. and Mrs. Fred (Lavoy) Hederick of Glen Daniel, and a brother, Paul Shumate of Chicago, Ill. Services will be 1 p.m. today at Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Fred Dinkler officiating. Burial will follow in the Shumate Cemetery, Stover. Friends may call one hour before the services today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Eric and James Clemons, John Earl Shumate, John E. Tolley, Victor Giammerino and Roger Manning. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley.
