James Cosby

James Cosby, 84, of Beckley, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born May 26, 1915, in Riley, he was the son of the late Robert and Susie Toney Cosby. Mr. Cosby was a retired miner and had been a state worker at Pinecrest Hospital. He was a member of the UMWA, was of the Baptist faith and a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, George, Charles and Clarence N. Cosby; and two sisters, Viola Green and Thelma Campbell. Survivors include two sisters, Ollie Martin of Greentown and Mary Fox of Columbus, Ohio; and an uncle, Frank Toney of Charleston. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley, with the Revs. Ronald Dyer and Peter Collins officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before services at the funeral parlor. Arrangements by Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.
