Obituaries for the Crook Family
Mildred Hall Crook, 82, of Beckley, passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at her residence following a long illness. Born Dec. 20, 1918, in Beaver, she was the daughter of the late Dallas M. and Mable Meadows Hall. Mrs. Crook was a member of Wesleyan Chapel, the DAR, Society of the Descendants of George Washington Army of Valley Forge 1777-1778, past president of the Beckley Business and Professional Women's Club and president of the Christian Singles. She belonged to the Rebecca Club. She was the founder and co-owner of Crook Produce Co. She was also a charter member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Midway. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Crook; four brothers, Norford C., Edell D., Arlen R. Hall and Dallas Beford; and two sisters, Ona Alcock and Ernestine Adams and her husband, Melvin. Survivors include a son, Kenny Crook and his wife, Judith Ann, of Stanaford; two grandsons, Kenneth D. Crook and his wife, Angela, of Stanaford and Keith Crook and his wife, Cindy, of Beckley; three granddaughters, Millie Waddell and her husband, Freddie, of Beckley, Rebecca Poland and her husband, Frank, and Jessica Crook, all of Stanaford; six great-grandchildren, Ryan Charles and Cameron Crook, Bobbi and Felicia Waddell, and Steven and Nathan Poland; a sister, Ermalee McCalley; and special friend and companion, Jim Taylor. Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Vic Reasoner officiating and the Rev. Elmo Alderman assisting. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Great-grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Constance Kay 'Connie' Crook
JUMPING BRANCH - Constance Kay "Connie" Crook, 62, of Jumping Branch, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at 1 a.m. at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a long illness. Born March 16, 1939, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Hazel Bibb Williams of Shady Spring and the late John Clark. Mrs. Crook was a teacher for over 25 years for the Summers County Board of Education, having taught at the Riverview Elementary School in Hinton and the Jumping Branch Elementary School. Mrs. Crook was a graduate of Shady Spring High School, and a graduate of East Tennessee State University with a degree in education. She was a member of the Open Door Church in Shady Spring. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Brice Crook; two sons, Douglas John Crook and wife Melissa of Jumping Branch and Gregory Scott Crook of Jumping Branch; one daughter, Robin Browning and husband Greg of Shady Spring; one brother, John F. "Rick" Clark and wife Geneva of Ghent; and two grandchildren, Shaun and Justin Crook. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Open Door Church at Shady Spring with Pastor George Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. Friends may call at the church from 6 to 9 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be Shaun Crook, Michael Clark, Michael Norman, Johnny Lilly and friends of the Open Door Church at Shady Spring.
