HANAHAN, S.C. - Dennis Lee Adkins Sr., 58, died Friday, June 4, 1999, in a Charleston, S.C., hospital. Born Jan. 18, 1941, in Fay-ette County, he was the son of Jonie B. Adkins and Evelyn Samples Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a retired 1st class petty officer with the U.S. Navy with 20 years of service, including service in Vietnam. He was a member of VFW Post 10256, the American Legion post in Goose Creek, S.C., and Fleet Reserve Chapter 50. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Thompson Adkins; two daughters, Denice Donahue of Virginia Beach, Va., and Jane Purvis of Rainbow City, Ala.; three sons, Dennis Lee Adkins Jr. of North Charleston, S.C., Gary Adkins of Hanahan and Richard Adkins of Morganton, N.C.; his stepfather, J.W. Rush of Macedonia, S.C.; a sister, Mildred Love of Lexington, N.C.; and three brothers, Samuel Adkins of Huger, S.C., and Richard Adkins and Charles Adkins, both of Moncks Corner, S.C.
