Lura Adkins, 89, of Oak Hill, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 14, 2001, at her granddaughter's residence following a short illness. Born Nov. 21, 1911, at Long Bottom, she was the daughter of the late Char-lie and Gur-india Adkins Adkins. Mrs. Adkins was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clark Adkins; three sons, Herbert, Charles, and an infant son; three daughters, Wanda Adkins, Freeda Cooke, and Lorene Marciniak; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include three sons, Joe E. Adkins and wife Shirley of Valley View, Ohio, Richard C. Adkins and wife Vivian of Charlotte, N.C., and Hershel Adkins of Layland; a daughter, Joyce M. Breeden of Mount Hope; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Larry Humphreys officiating. Burial will follow in Adkins Family Cemetery, Long Bottom. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Sayre, Ernest Crawford, Charles Higginbotham, Brandon Higginbotham, Sammy Byers, and Harless Adkins.
