Jeanette Sue Cook Clay, 54, of Arnett, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long and brave struggle with cancer. Born June 5, 1945, at Arnett, she was the daughter of Tommy Laverty of Arnett and the late Velva Wills Laverty. Mrs. Clay was a member of the Flat Branch Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for more than 15 years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Teddy R. Cook. Other survivors include her husband, David Lee Clay; two daughters, Karen Harper of Arnett and Carol Cook of Clarmont, N.C.; a son, Chuck Cook of Arnett; two sisters, Yvonne Lemon of Arnett and Barbara Sheets of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren, Heather and Holly Cook and Trace and Thomas Harper; and special friends, Geraldine Cantley and Margaret Ramsey. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Flat Branch Baptist Church, Arnett, with Pastor Andrew Davis and Ersil Laverty officiating. Burial will follow in Lemon Cemetery, Arnett.
