Katherine Cullop Combs went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 26, 1999, after an extended illness. Born Jan. 24, 1914, in Abington, Va., she was the daughter of the late John Walker Minton and Nannie Davis Minton. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Wiley V. Cullop Sr.; and a son, John David Cullop Sr., in September 1993. Survivors include her husband, the Rev. W.C. Combs of Sophia; seven sons and eight daughters, Wiley V. Cullop Jr. and wife Donna of Ghent, James R. Cullop and wife Judi of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Barbara M. Flanagan of Beckley, Walker D. Cullop and wife Ban of Camden, Del., Marion V. Fox and husband Harry of Ghent, Helen L. Crager and husband Carl of Montoursville, Pa., Mary Lynn Shrewsberry and husband Carl of Manassas, Va., Shirley K. Thompson and husband Warren of Ghent, Rosa Lee Casteel and husband Burt of Ghent, Richard L. Cullop and wife Adrea of Staford, Va., Alvie M. Cullop and wife Donna of Roanoke, Va., Brenda S. Toothman and husband Bill of Woodstock, Ga., T.C. Cullop and wife Susan of Hickory N.C., Karen E. Roark and husband Gary of Coal City, and Greg A. Cullop and wife Jeri of Mabscott; four sisters, Ora Mae Shumate of Beckley, Lovon Blackwell of Lady Lake, Fla., Beulah Johnson of Raleigh, N.C., and Ruby Beheeler of Roanoke, Va.; 44 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Open Door Church, Shady Spring, with the Rev. George Smith officiaiting. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before services today at the church. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.
