Retired Sgt. Franklin D. Cooper, 76, of White Oak, died Friday, April 30, 1999, at a Beckley medical center following a long illness. Born Jan. 8, 1923, at Lilly, Summers County, he was the son of the late J.G. “Jack” Cooper and Mamie Grayson Cooper. Mr. Cooper graduated from Hinton High School and was a WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a medical technician. He had been a resident of White Oak since 1948. He was preceded in death by a sister, Orda Danese Farley, three brothers, John D., Zachariah Dawson, and Delmer J. Cooper. Survivors include a sister Beulah Dean Cooper of Baltimore; a niece, Janna Lois Kirkwood of Huntsville, Ala.; two nephews, Melvin Cooper and his wife, Catherine, of New Park, Pa., and Larry Cooper and his wife, Juanita, of Sacramento, Calif.; special friends and caregivers with whom he made his home for the past year, Rosenell Lilly and Frank Boone. Services will be conducted 1 p.m. today at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with Brother Danny Winders officiating. Burial will follow at the Crews Cemetery at Nimitz. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services today. Charles Washburn, William Lilly, Ron Meadows, Frank Boone, Melvin Cooper and Harless Sydenstricker will serve as pallbearers.
