Charles Earl Redden, 57, of Coal City, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at a Beckley area hospital following a short illness. Born Sept. 6,1943, in Egeria, he was the son of the late Norman Basil and Norean Gladys Crouse Redden. Mr. Redden was a coal miner, a member of the UMWA, Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2377 and American Legion Post No. 0200. He loved boating and being on the waters at Summersville and Stephens lakes. He also served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Redden. Survivors include a son, Richard Redden of King George, Va.; a daughter, Melissa O'Neal of Fredericksburg, Va.; two brothers, Curtis Redden of Princeton and Dean Redden of Tennessee; a sister, Linda Sue Redden Brooks of Fredericksburg; six grandchildren, Ashley O'Neal, Jackie O'Neal III, Gregory O'Neal, BrandonRedden, Corbin Redden and Sean Redden; and a great-grandchild, Joshua O'Neal. Service will be2 p.m. Thursday at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Sophia, with the Rev. Kepple Bolen officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
