West Virginia is a great state, but one that is suffering. And the people of West Virginia are suffering--particularly the ones in the southern part of the state. Their health and general well-being are every day under assault by big coal, which builds massive and deadly earthen dams to hold back toxic waste, that dynamites the very mountains that residents live under, that is burying more water sources day by day, and does not consider the long-term negative effect their mineral extraction has on the ability to live on the land of West Virginia.
I want you to find a way to end the destruction of our mountains and the degradation of our environment by the coal industry. And I want you to creatively explore new ways for West Virginians to earn a living that do not utilize coal mining.
