MORGANTOWN -- John Zachariah "Zack" Ellison, 83, of Willowdale Road, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in a Morgantown hospital following a long illness. Born Oct. 20, 1915, in Greenville, Monroe County, he was the son of the late A.D. Sr. and Emma Kyle Ellison. Mr. Ellison was a native of Greenville and had lived in Morgantown for more than 40 years. He was a graduate of Morgantown High School and attended West Virginia University. He was active in agricultural affairs and had been a farmer. He supervised veterans during World War II in on-the-job training. He was active in the West Virginia Poultry Association and served as executive secretary. He was a member of the Farm Supply Association and retired as a salesman for Carnation Feed Co. He was interested in West Virginia culture; along with his wife, Helen Steele Ellison, who preceded him in death, he contributed to Goldenseal magazine. He was a charter member and president of Greenville Ruritan Club and served as district governor. His church was Presbyterian. Survivors include four sisters, Anne Maddy of Blacksburg, Va., Catherine Showalter of Covington, Va., Harriett Trippy of Huntington and Julia Rolling of Ilion, N.Y., and Vero Beach, Fla.; two brothers, the Rev. A.D. Ellison Jr. of Charleston and R. Warren Ellison of Greenville; and his caretaker, Virginia Wright of Oakland, Md. Cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the home place cemetery.
