HOCKESSIN, Del. - Gatha Hatfield, 82, formerly of Itmann, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, in a Delaware care center. Born Sept. 26, 1916, in Oneida, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Knox and Ida Belle Smith Jeffers. Mrs. Hatfield was a resident of Itmann for 39 years before moving to Delaware in 1995 and into the care center in 1997. She was also a member of the Highlawn Baptist Church of Mullens and a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband John "Scott" Hatfield in 1997 and one sister, Midge May. Survivors include two daughters, Gatha Faye and husband Steve Meadows of Hockessin, Del., and Brenda Gale and husband Leon Ellis of Proctorville, Ohio; one son, John Kenneth Hatfield of Alta Loma, Calif.; one sister, Hester Blackburn of Feds Creek, Ky; and 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Rev. Phil Smith and the Rev. Jack Tankersley officiating. Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at the Rome-Proctorville Cemetery in Proctorville, Ohio. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens.
