COAL MOUNTAIN - Raymond Hatfield, 74, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, in a Welch hospital following a long illness. Born Feb. 20, 1925, in Guyan, he was the son of the late Onnie Hatfield and Maggie Morgan Hatfield. Mr. Hatfield was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County, a retired coal miner from Island Creek Coal Co. and was of the Freewill Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Octavia Hanshaw Hatfield; and brothers and sisters, Freeman Hatfield, Jessie Hatfield, Allie Hanshaw, Vertie Browning, Eulan Hatfield, Wanda Hatfield, Mary Ruth Hatfield, Georgia Hatfield and Sissy Hatfield. Survivors include six sons, Larry White Hatfield of Michigan, Richard Hatfield, Onnie Hatfield, Eddie Hatfield and Earl Hatfield, all of Indian Creek Village No. 2, and Robert Hatfield of Pineville; four daughters, Betty Brown, Shirley Browning and Peggy Dutton, all of Indian Creek Village No. 2, and Linda Gail Metheny of Logan County; brothers and sisters, Homer Hatfield of Baileysville, Ocie Fugate of Lexington, Ky., Vonnie Walls of Coal Mountain, Lonnie Hatfield of Brenton, Ann Walker of Justice, Lucile Debono of Michigan, Roger Hatfield of Rock House and Freddy Hatfield of Gilbert; 24 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Hatfield Cemetery, Road Branch, with the Rev. Bill Stewart officiating. Burial will follow. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the home of Peggy Dutton at Indian Creek Village No. 2. Family will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Evans and Evans Funeral Directors, Oceana.
