LYNCHBURG, Va. -- David Langston Harper, 75, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at his home. Born March 14, 1923, at Hinton, he was the son of the late Lee Harper and Lyda Lilly Harper. Mr. Harper was a former furniture store owner, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist. An avid and active bridge player, he was a member of the Lynchburg Duplicate Bridge Club and had achieved Bronze Life Master status in the American Contract Bridge League. Survivors include a son, the Rev. Hamilton K. Harper of Lynchburg, Va.; a daughter, Beth Ann Harper Edwards of Lynchburg, Va.; a sister, Leeda Lilly of Troutville, Va.; three grandchildren, Amorette Harper, Thomas Thomas, and Sean Edwards; and a special friend, Calvin Fitzgerald of Madison Heights, Va., whom he considred to be a son. Services will be 7 p.m. today at the Diuguid Rivermont Chapel, Lynchburg, Va., with the Rev. Hamilton K. Harper officiating. Friends may call 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
