Leona Shamblin Humphrey, 65, of Brown Street, Prosperity, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999. Born March 25, 1934, at Willis Branch, she was the daughter of the late Theodore R. and Naomi Marie McMillion Shamblin. Mrs. Humphrey spent her childhood at Willis Branch and was a 1951 graduate of Pax High School. She was an active member of Advent Christian Church, Johnstown Road, and was retired from Kmart with 17 years of service as the head of the jewelry department. She was a homemaker, a devoted grandmother and an avid gardener. She lived in Beckley for a number of years and had been a resident of Prosperity for 34 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Dale Humphrey, on April 25, 1992; and a brother, Maxie Shamblin. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Epperley of Beckley; two sons, Jimmy Edward Humphrey and his wife, Carolyn, of Beckley and Randall Craig Humphrey and his wife, Terry Lynn, of Sugar Hill, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn and Kati Nicole Epperley and Jason Aaron, Christine Michelle, Joshua David, Ryan Anthony, Zachary Alexander and Morgan Alivia Humphrey; a brother, Erland Shamblin and his wife, Frances, of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Iona Watson and her husband, Gene, of Forence, S.C., and Bonnie Moss and her husband, Howard, of Greenville, S.C.; and three brothers-in-law, Pat Humphrey and his wife, Betty, of Cool Ridge, Ralph Humphrey and his wife, Jean, of Ripley and Paul Humphrey and his wife, Margaret, of Oak Hill. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Revs. Orville Harvey and James Balser officiating. Burial will follow in Pax Community Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Kenny Humphrey, Dwaine Sweeney, Howard Moss, Paul Humphrey, Fred Wilson and Mike Weiler.
