OAK HILL - William Howard "Bill" Jayne Jr., 74, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, in an Oak Hill medical center following a short illness. Born Oct. 19, 1924, in Bay City, Mich., he was the son of the late William H. Jayne Sr. and Frances Franks Jayne. Mr. Jayne was a retired personnel manager for Royal Coal Co. He was a member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and an usher. He was a member of the Charleston Lodge No. 153 AF&AM, Charleston Scottish Rite and was a 32nd degree mason. He was a member of Beni Kedem Temple AAONMS, Charleston, the Oak Hill Lions Club, past president of the Fayette Shrine Club and was a Civil Service commissioner for the Fayette County Sheriff's Association. Mr. Jayne was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Jayne. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Wheeler Jayne; a son, William H. Jayne III and his wife, Jane, of London, England; a daughter, Missey Smith and her husband, George, of Mount Hope; four grandsons, George F. Smith III and Jason M. Smith of Mount Hope, William H. Jayne IV and Christopher P. Jayne of London, England; and numerous cousins. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. James E. Shepherd and the Rev. William Slates officiating. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill, with Masonic committal rites. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill.
