PRINCETON - Jessie Ruth Lilly, 85, of 1404 N. Walker St., died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, in a Princeton hospital. Born Aug. 25, 1914, at Flat Top, she was the daughter of the late Paris I. and Tessie Ross Lilly. Ms. Lilly was a retired educator with over 50 years of service in Wyoming and Mercer counties. In Wyoming County, she taught at Herndon Elementary, Herndon High School and Oceana High School. In Mercer County, her schools included Thorn Elementary, Princeton Junior High School and Princeton Senior High School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Princeton, where she attended the Cassidy Sunday school class. She was also a longtime member of the Altar Guild and Wesleyan Service Guild. Graduating from Athens High School and Concord College, Athens, she completed 16 years of schooling in 17 years. She completed her graduate studies at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. She was a lifetime member of the National, West Virginia and Mercer County education associations and formerly served as secretary of the Mercer County Education Association. She was also a member of the Mercer County Retired Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Barger Ross Lilly and his wife, Zelma, and John W. "Billy" Lilly; and a sister, Elizabeth Lilly Hoback. Survivors include a brother, B. Joe Lilly of Princeton; a sister, Patty Linkenhoker and her husband, Bill, of Princeton; a niece, Ruth Linkenhoker Boyles of Princeton; a nephew, Lynn Stephen Hoback of Dearborn, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Frances Poston Lilly of Princeton; a brother-in-law, Silas De Hoback of Dearborn; and good friend, Bridgette Pendleton of Princeton. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Athens Cemetery with the Rev. Clifford Schell officiating. Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. today at Seaver Funeral Home, Princeton.
