RIPLEY -- Nellie V. Davis McKinney, 85, formerly of Mullens, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, in a Ripley hospital following a long illness. Born April 30, 1913, in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Willie Adams Davis. Mrs. Davis was co-owner and operator of Peoples Cash Market in Mullens. She was a member of the Ladies Circle at the First Church of God and a member of the Ripley Baptist Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert Lee McKinney; and a daughter, June Jones. Survivors include a son, Alvin Robert McKinney of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Nancy Roberts and Marion Irene Griggs of Hampton, Va.; two brothers, Alfred Davis of Lashmeet and J.C. Sweeny of Portsmouth, Va.; six sisters, Gladys Dishner of Lashmeet, Ruth Gillenwater of Rock, Ethel Gordon of Beckley, Gurdy Honaker of Chesapeake, Va., Virgie Holmes of Princeton and Savanah Tiller of Jacksonville, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ripley Baptist Temple, with Pastor Mike Norris and the Rev. Gerald Ray officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley. Friends may call 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, and one hour before services Wednesday at the church. Additional visitation will be held 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Chapel, Beckley, with the committal service at 4 p.m. Arrangements by Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley.
