Velvet Fern Miller, 81, of Horse Creek, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, in Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a long illness. Born June 8, 1920, at Horse Creek, Naoma, she was the daughter of the late Freeland and Amanda Mae Wiley Linville. Mrs. Miller was a member of Horse Creek Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Miller; three daughters, Mary Louise Varney, Debbie Mae and Lucille Miller; a son, Charles Freddie; and a grandson, Joe E. Jr. Survivors include two daughters, Louella Settie and her husband, Bob, of Richmond, Va., and Margaret Ann Stewart and her husband, Butch, of Glen Daniel; three sons, Joe Eddie and his wife, Mary Ann, of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Robert L. and his wife, Tressie, and Roger Dale and his wife, Jo Alice, all of Horse Creek; four sisters, Violet Cook of Cleveland, Marie Hendrix of Dorothy and Rosa Webb and Ona Cook, both of Horse Creek; three brothers, Carl Linville of Muncie, Ind., Chris Linville of Rock Creek and Scott Linville of Elyria, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Horse Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Horse Creek, Naoma, with the Revs. David Cook and Bobby Carter officiating. The singers will be the Turner Family. Burial will follow in Miller Family Cemetery, Horse Creek, Naoma. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church. Arrangements by Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville.
