TUG CREEK - Russell Eddie Pittman, 78, died 2:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Summers County Hospital following a long illness. Born April 25, 1923, in Raleigh County, he was the son of the late Obie Estel and Mary Frances Tyree Pittman. Mr. Pittman had been a resident of Summers County for the past 12 years. He was a retired coal miner and a member of UMWA District 29. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Barker Pittman; a son, Kenneth Barker; three brothers and one sister. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy and Jason Pittman of Tug Creek; a daughter, Margaret Lawler of Tennessee; two sisters, Enola Martin of Grassy Meadows and Ernestine Harkless of Ohio; a brother, Denzil Pittman and wife, Lucy, of Daniels; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Graveside service and burial will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Pittman Family Cemetery at Tug Creek with Pastor Eddie Johnson officiating.
