DOTHAN - William Samuel Seletyn, 76, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a long illness. Born June 1, 1924, in Scarbro, he was a son of the late John C. and Ocie Kincaid Seletyn. Mr. Seletyn was a retired miner with 30 years of service. He worshipped at First Church of God in Carlisle. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II, serving in China and in the India Theater of the war. He received a Purple Heart in February 1945. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, and was well known as a Gospel singer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph A. Seletyn; one brother, Fred Seletyn; one sister, Margie Arthur; and in-laws Allie C. and Esther Webb. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ann Webb Seletyn of Dothan; one son, the Rev. Samuel L. Seletyn and his wife, Mickie, of Cumberland, Md.; one daughter-in-law, Claudia Seletyn and Gary Bradley of Dothan; one sister, Gertrude Canterbury of Oak Hill; and eight grandchildren, Jennifer McHenry and her husband, Sean, of Parkersburg, Janice Seletyn, Rebekah Seletyn, Zachary William Seletyn, Joseph and Candice Seletyn, Abigail Seletyn, and Caitlyn Bradley. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carlisle First Church of God with the Rev. Gene Bowen officiating. Burial will be at Lee Webb Cemetery in Dothan.
