Hazel J. Shoemaker

Hazel Johnson Shoemaker, 72, of Beckley, died of natural causes, Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, in a Beckley care center. Born March 30, 1926, in Goldston, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Cleve and Allie Goldston Johnson. Mrs. Shoemaker was a homemaker, member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Beckley, and was a former member of the Fernwood Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. "Chuck" Shoemaker; two sisters, Mary Rudnick and Louise Johnson. Mrs. Shoemaker had been a resident of Beckley for the past 38 years. Survivors include a son, Charles F. Shoemaker III and his wife, Sharon, of Davis, Calif.; four daughters, Nancy J. Shoemaker at home, Allie Sebroski and her husband, Frank, of Moundsville, Anne Hildebrand and her husband, Keith, of Huntington, and Elizabeth Rickey of Front Royal, Va.; two sisters, Audrey Johnson and Ruth Hilliard and her husband, Cayce, all of Goldston, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral liturgy will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with the Rev. Samuel S. Sacus as celebrant. Rite of committal will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, where a Christian vigil service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m., with the Rev. Mr. Don Wise officiating. Members of the John Halpin Council of the Knights of Columbus will serve as pallbearers.
