RUPERT - Charles H. "Charlie" Stanley Sr., 82, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, in a Fairlea medical center following a long illness. Born June 4, 1917, in Goodview, Va., he was the son of the late Silas Peter and Sarah Frances Sweeney Stanley. Mr. Stanley was a World War II Army veteran, a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA, and a member of the Rupert Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John Stanley, George Stanley, and J.P. Stanley; and three sisters, Nellie Sowers, Curtis Richmond and Jessie Richmond. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jessie L. Gill Stanley of Rupert; three sons, Charles H. Stanley Jr. and his wife, Dora, of Rupert, Thomas M. Stanley and his wife, Charlotte, of Covington, Va., and David A. Stanley of Montpelier, Va.; a daughter, Martha S. Phillips and her husband, John, of Charleston; and three grandchildren, Mark Stanley, Jason Stanley, and Sarah Stanley; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Wallace and Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Donald L. Epperly officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
