James L Teel, Sr., 77, of Mabscott, went to be with his Lord Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001 in a Beckley area hospital following a long illness. Born April 2, 1924 at Beckley, he was the son of the late Quincy Lee Teel and Laura Mae Pittman Teel. Mr. Teel was a retired custodian for the Board of Education. Mr. Teel also worked for Lewis Chevrolet prior to the Board of Education. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Carriage Drive. He served in the U.S. Army during World War Two. He was preceded in death by a brother, Maldon Teel; two sisters, Helen Lilly and Martha McClaugherty, and a grandson, Gary Williams. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Daisy Williams Teel; three sons, Lacy Armstrong and wife Debbie of Snow Camp, N.C., James L Teel Jr. and wife Vicki of Raleigh, N.C., and Doug Teel and his wife, Lisa of Oak Hill; three daughters, Drema Williams and husband Denny of Maple Fork, Celeste Browning and husband, Ralph of Lynchburg, Va., and Patty Ward of Mabscott; a brother, Dale Teel of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Susie Goad of Roanoke, VA and Gurthel Gravely of Mabscott; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley with Pastor Jeff Balkan officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Oak Hill VFW Post No. 3110. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Gary Lively, Allen Akers, Roy Chapman, Alan Rich, Ron Cook, and Barry Akers. Arrangements by Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.
