Dixie Thompson, 85, of Ghent, died at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999 at a Beckley care center following a long illness. Born July 15, 1913 at Stone Coal, she was the daughter of the late John Dearnell and Mary Dearnell. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker, of the Baptist faith, and had been a Ghent resident for 46 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Claude Thompson in 1972; and three sisters and a brother. Survivors include three sons, John Claude Thompson Jr. and his wife, Judy of Ghent, Thomas Glen Thompson and his wife, Norma of Woodbridge, Va., and Pat Thompson of Charleston; four daughters, Jacki Eyler of Alexandria, Va., Dawn Stafford of Stafford, Va., Doris Bohannon and her husband, Jim of Solomons Island, Md., Diane Harmon and her husband, Raymond of Ghent; two brothers, Willard Dearnell of New York and Robert Dearnell of Florida; a sister, Thelma Dearnell of West Virginia; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with Pastor Edward Garten officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
