Paul L. Totten, 74, of 231 Haymarket Drive, Beckley, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Gwinnett Medical Center, Lawrenceville, Ga., following a short illness. Born July 7, 1927, in Raleigh County, he was the son of the late Noah Totten and Mary Mitchem Totten. Mr. Totten was a coal miner from Ranger Fuel Corp. and a member of the UMWA. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Totten enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and motorcycle riding. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul L. Totten Jr.; a stepson, Gregory Deck; a brother, Rufus Totten; a sister, Pearl Cadle; and his mother-in-law, Mattie Pennington. Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Doris Pennington Totten; a daughter, Victoria Ann Totten-Bolt and her husband, Herbie, of Crab Orchard; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Salama and her husband, John, and their son, Joseph Arron, of Lawrenceville; a stepdaughter-in-law, Carolyn Deck and her son, Gregory Deck Jr., of Beckley; a stepgreat-grandchild; several other stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Venie Cecil of Sweeneysburg and Goldie Coleman of Beckley; and several nieces and nephews. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Jim Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
