SOPHIA - Lila G. Lilly Brogan Walker, of Sophia, went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 7, 2001, on her 76th birthday, in a Beckley area hospital following a short illness. Born July 7, 1925, at Mt. View, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Elbert and Virginia Ellen Ransom Lilly. Mrs. Walker was a homemaker. She was a member of Soak Creek Tabernacle for over 42 years, where she was dedicated to serving the Lord. She served as a foster mother to over 40 children. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Creed Brogan; a son, Vessie Garfield Walker; a sister, Willie Wood; and a brother, Clacy "Buck" Lilly. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Vessie Verco Walker; a son, William Creed Brogan and wife Shirley of Midway; two daughters, Virginia "Ginger" Lilly and husband Roger of Covington, Va., and Velma Lilly and husband Charles of Eagle Rock, Va.; a brother, Henry "Buster" Lilly and wife Carol of Sophia; a sister, Nina Brogan of Cool Ridge; eight grandchildren, Kenneth and Kevin Brogan, David, John, Chris, and Wesley Lilly, Leigh Ann Carr, and Tanya Bennett; a special care giver, Libby Thompson of Sophia; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Sophia, with the Rev. Terry Hatcher, the Rev. Marvin Rupe, and Pastor Roger Pauley officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
