Johnson Creek about 1825. Their children: St. Clair " Sinkler" m.

William Wiley HAMMACK was born 28 MAY 1854; engaged in public school
teaching early in life, taught ten terms in all; was active in all the first
teachers institutes commenced in the county about 1880. He m. Dicy PAXTON
daughter of John & Mary (VINEYARD) PAXTON. They made their lives on Poca.
Their children: Henry Lewis, William Clinton, John St. Clair, Laura May, Mary
Blandis wife of Bert E. SUMMERS, Lucy Elton wife of Homer STUMP, Eva Susan
wife of Harvey R. CARPER & Mary Octavia wife of Clary S. CARPER.
Susan, daughter of William & Sarah HAMMACK, m. Peter HAMMACK nephew of
her father who arrived from VA as a young man. For 30 years, Susan was an
efficient midwife serving all the surrounding country. Their children: John,
Perry & Elizabeth. Perry HAMMACK was county assessor 1904-1909. John &
Perry owned a sawmill on Johnson creek about 1900. On unfortunate day, Perry
working on a log at the carriage, while the circular saw was in motion, kicked
at a clamp or pointed fastener on top of the log to bend it out of the way of
the advancing saw-teeth & severed at the ankle joint. This is why he was
known as the 'lame man' when he was making his campaign.
