The Taylor County Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. accepts charts and family group sheets, and all other documents pertaining to Taylor County history or genealogy. These will be made available for research at the Taylor County Public Library. An annual membership fee of $12.00 includes a quarterly publication, "Taylor County in Profile".

The Taylor County Public Library has a genealogical division, maintained in cooperation with the Taylor County Historical and Genealogical Society. The Taylor County Historical and Genealogical Society has purchased over 1200 genealogical and historical references and many more have been donated.

Melba Pender Zinn does genealogical research in the West Virgina and Regional History Collection, West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV for Taylor, Marion, Monongalia, and Preston Counties. Melba is the great-great-granddaughter of T. Bailey Brown, first casualty of the Civil War.

Grafton National Cemetery

The Grafton National Cemetery was established in 1867, and within two years, 1,251 bodies of both Union and Confederate troops, 664 of these unknown, were interred. Burial records indicate the location from which all bodies were disinterred. The cemetery is comprised on 3.21 acres and in 1961 reached its capacity of 2,134 with no undeveloped area for expansion.

West Virginia National Cemetery

The West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown was dedicated in 1987 and succeeds the Grafton National Cemetery in providing approximately 3,000 new grave sites.
