Anthem is a relatively small oil field community located east of Knob Fork on Sugar Run. Z. T. Stewart owned a General Store with a community building on the second floor. This was used for local productions of plays and band performances. The Anthem Band consisted of all wind instruments and had a number of accomplished musicians, namely: Z. T. Stewart, John Stewart, Lee Asher, Sr. Charlie Stewart, Hamilton Bogard and Charlie Stoneking.

The one-room Anthem school house was located at the intersection of Sugar Run and the road to Kodol.

The Mt. Herman Methodist Church was at the top of the hill on the Kodol road.

Company F. 1st Infantry had a National Guard post located in Anthem. Later this post was combined with and moved to Littleton.
