Harold Simon Walker

Harold was born in Birch River, Nicholas County, WV on 29 May 1926. He was the son of Alden O. Walker and Sylvia O. Bowen. He is buried at the Birch River Baptist Cemetery in Nicholas County.
Harold, 23 years old, was killed in a slate fall at the Central Coal Company Mine at Graham Station, Mason County at 7:23 a.m. on 13 Feb 1951. Harold, a shuttle car operator, was killed instantly when the car he was operating struck a post supporting the slate, knocking it out of position and allowing the slate to fall. He was the first fatality at the two year old mine.
He had moved to Mason County about one year before the accident and was an experienced miner. He had been employed by the company since September. No one else was injured. Harold left his wife, Maxine, two young daughters, Belinda and Caroline, his parents and his brother, Roscoe and sisters, Beulah and Annalee. Uncle Harold died 7 years before I was born. I wish I could have known him.
